TEAMS NEEDED FOR REFEREE TRAINING
Teams are needed to participate in referee training scrimmage games. All games will be played at JASA Soccer fields on Saturday, August 23rd. Please email Cliff Clement with your intent to play, including your team name, gender age group, and challenge or recreation. (Aug 14, 2008)

DISTRICT 1 STATE REC FESTIVAL (KOHL'S AMERICAN CUP)
The Spring Recreation Festival will be held right here in Jacksonville on May 17, 2008. The festival is open to all recreation U10, 11 & 12 teams. NCYSA just completed the web site to apply for online registration. Please visit http://www.ncstatecup.com. The link on the web site is called "The Kohl's American Cup, NCYSA Recreation Festival"; just scroll down and look for the Recreation Festival link and simply click APPLY to start the process. The registration deadline will be 3/17/08 extended to 4/7/08. The cost for the festival is $12 per player. NCYSA will be needing the registrar certification form and a red stamped roster. 2008 COLLEGE SHOWCASE
The 2008 College Showcase will take place at Tabernacle Soccer Complex on Sunday, March 16. Matches begin at 11:00 am. Participating teams include Elon University, UNC Wilmington, and the Wilmington Hammerheads. Admission is FREE and open to the public. Come out and watch the college and pro teams play! (Mar 7, 2008)

NSCAA STATE COACHING DIPLOMA OFFERED IN JACKSONVILLE
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America will be presenting the State Diploma course in Jacksonville at the Tabernacle Fields on March 9th from 1-6PM. The State Diploma is a five-hour course directed toward the person newly involved in coaching soccer. It is designed to help coaches working with players in the 5- to 10-year age range. Special emphasis is placed on understanding the physiological and psychological differences of coaching children.
The course is designed to emphasize that the game itself essentially is the teacher and the focus of the coach at this level clearly is as facilitator. The curriculum focuses on the organization of a practice session, using small-sided games to enhance knowledge and fun, basic understanding of the Laws of the Game and information about the care and prevention of injuries. There is no testing in the State Diploma. All candidates must be at least 14 years of age at the time of application. If a candidate is under 18 years of age, an adult must accompany him or her for the duration of the course.
The course costs $35.00 (check with your club, many clubs reimburse participants upon completion of the course). If you coach other age groups but want to expand your knowledge, take the course; you will be happy you did. Download an application HERE. (Feb 29, 2008)

NOTE to Coaches and Team Managers: Over half of all teams are not turning in score sheets, and the ones that are turned in are incomplete. Please insure the Game Number is at the top of the score sheet and that it is turned in to the Concession Stand after the match. If you need instruction on filling out the score sheet see a club official at the field. Also scores may be emailed to mcook@ssa-nc.com. Include Game Number, Date played, Team Names, and Score.
FREE COACHING CLASS TO BE OFFERED!!!
There will be Youth Module II Coaching class offered at East Duplin High School (in Beulaville), Sunday, March 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This class is FREE, so please take advantage of this opportunity. For more information, go the EDSA web site HERE. (Feb 22, 2008)

THREE FROM THE EAST HONORED WITH NCYSA AWARDS
Kenny and Kristi McKinney from Seashore Soccer League were named Volunteers of the Year by NCYSA Awards Committee. Cliff Clement was also honored as Referee of the Year. The awards were bestowed on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at The Annual Awards Luncheon in Greensboro, NC. Congratulations!. (Jan 29, 2008)
2008 SOCCER REFEREE CERTIFICATION COURSE
There will be a Referee Certification Course offered at the Jacksonville High School library on February 1-3, 2008. Must attend ALL three days. Schedule is as follows: Friday, Feb 1, 6pm-9pm / Saturday, Feb 2, 8am-5pm (hour lunch break / Sunday, Feb 3, 8am-5pm (hour lunch break).
